Successful completing our air conditioning course entitles you to a Certificate II in Split System Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems, which you can use to apply for a refrigerant handling licence. This license will allow you to install, commission, and decommission single head, split air conditioners and heat systems up to 18kW.
This course is suited to licensed electricians looking to upgrade their skills, 3rd and 4th electrical apprentices who want to specialise in split system air conditioners, and plumbers or gas fitters who want to enter the air conditioning industry.
Our training course includes all the knowledge and skills required to enter the air conditioning industry and conduct work according to industry standards. These inclusions are as follows:
The practical component of this training course involves learning environmentally sustainable procedures under the supervision of our professional trainers. Our split system course does not include training and competencies for the service, repair, maintenance, diagnostic/fault finding, and electrical work or the safe and proper installation of commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump plants and equipment.
On successful completion of this air conditioning course, students who will be undertaking work in South Australia will be required to apply to the Consumer and Business Services (CBS) for a building licence.

For students who meet the prerequisite experience, skill and knowledge requirements, the course may take anywhere between 2-6 days of practical work and assessments, including an online theory component that you are to complete in your own time prior to the onsite attendance. Students may also be required undertake workplace learning in industry to fulfil their training requirements before undertaking assessment. Up to 12 months will be given to students to complete this qualification from the date of enrolment. If you are deemed not yet compliant with the necessary skills, you may be asked to be reassessed outside this period.

Online Theory – Providing the theoretical knowledge you need for getting certification in air conditioning installation and decommissioning. You can complete this component at your own pace, giving you the freedom to complete it at a time and place most convenient for you.
Workplace Simulation – This component simulates a work environment and gives you the practical skills for the installing and decommissioning split system air conditioners. Our expert and experienced trainers conduct this part of our course at an approved training venue in Adelaide.
Workplace based training for learners under the supervision of an ARC licensed supervisor – Students who identify during the pre-assessment process of having little to no experience, knowledge or developed skills with the installation, commissioning and decommissioning will be required to nominate an ARC licenced supervisor to undertake workplace based training. A profiling report must be completed by the supervisor and learner to ensure required skills can be developed in the workplace over time.
By combining both theoretical and practical aspects of air conditioning, our training course offers the essential knowledge and skills for entering the air conditioning industry and working with split system air conditioners.
This licence is also known as the Restricted Split System Air Conditioning Installation and Decommissioning Licence and allows you to work with refrigerants for the installation and decommissioning of particular types of split system air conditioners.
If you successfully complete our air conditioning course and also successfully obtain a restricted Refrigerant Handling Licence, you will be qualified to install and decommission split system air conditioners that don’t exceed 18kW. This includes ducted, wall hung, floor and ceiling mounted units.
Those who have completed this course will also be qualified to take the Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (UEE32211) and other courses listed in the UEE11 Training Package for advancing industry skills and expanding career prospects.
