You must hold a Restricted Refrigerant Recoverer license (RRRL) issued by ARC to be able to recover/remove refrigerant from end-of-life decommissioned refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.

Get Skilled Training can offer all inclusive onsite training to ensure you have all the skills and knowledge to recovery refrigerant within your scope of work.

Please note – refrigeration and air conditioning systems containing hydrocarbon refrigerants such as R290 and R600 are not covered by this refrigerant recovery training course. In QLD a gas work licence is required to undertake work with flammable refrigerants.

You can get a Restricted Refrigerant Recoverer Licence (RRRL) for the following purposes:

Recovery from station systems only (e.g home air conditioners, refrigerators etc).
Recovery from automotive air conditioning systems only.
Recovery from both automotive and stationary systems.

All workers with a refrigerant recovery licence must work under a refrigerant trading authorisation or an AU number. A business with employees licensed to recover, store and dispose of fluorocarbon refrigerant will require a Restricted Refrigerant Trading Authorisation – Read More on the ARC website.

How to obtain a Restricted Refrigerant Recoverer Licence

Step 1: Contact Get Skilled Training

Step 2: Make sure you are appropriately licensed to do the training.

As training for the RRRL involves handling refrigerant, you will need a Trainee Restricted Refrigerant Recoverer Licence. Click here to apply with ARC.

Step 3: Complete Training

- Read the training manual/resources before undertaking the practical component of the course.
- Go over the theory with your trainer to ensure you understand all regulatory requirements and processes used for recovering refrigerant.
- Practice recovering refrigerant under supervision of your trainer/assessor.

Step 4: Undertake Assessments

- Knowledge Assessment (multiple choice) - this can be completed with your assessor.
- Practical assessment:
*For RRRL (stationary) applicants - stationary practical assessment.
*For RRRL (auto) applicants - auto practical assessment.
*For RRRL (auto & stationary) applicants - auto and stationary practical assessment.

Step 5: Apply for RRRL

Apply online here. You will need to submit your successfully completed knowledge assessment and practical assessment, signed by the assessor.

Course Information

Course Purpose

If you want to recover refrigerant (fluorocarbon) from end-of-life decommissioned refrigeration and air conditioning equipment you must hold at least a Restricted Refrigerant Recoverer licence (RRRL) issued by the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC). These systems may include fridges, freezers and air conditioning units.

For workers with an occupational need to undertake refrigerant recovery, Get Skilled Training can offer comprehensive training to ensure you have all the knowledge and skills required to recover refrigerants safely and in line with regulatory requirements.

Course Duration / Delivery

This course involves 4 hours of practical training and assessment which includes:

Knowledge Assessment: The knowledge assessment consists of questions about the refrigerant recovery process. All questions are based on the refrigerant recovery video tutorial and booklet. You can complete the knowledge assessment online, or answer the questions as part of the practical assessment.
Practical Assessment: You will need to correctly demonstrate the refrigerant recovery process to on of our trainers.
