Our split system course is comprised of a theoretical component that is completed online, and practical workshop based in Melbourne. With learning materials that are regularly updated aligning with industry standards, our Melbourne air conditioning courses meet all the legal requirements set by the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC).

Our Melbourne training venue is located at 7 Randor St, Campbellfield VIC 3061.

Course Purpose

If you are an electrician, a 3rd or 4th year electrical apprentice, or tradesperson who wants to add to their skill set and attain a formal qualification, the UEE20111 Certificate II in Split Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems is the air conditioning course for you.

This split system course in Melbourne will show you how to perform the installation as well as teach you about commissioning and decommissioning of single head, split air conditioning and heat pump systems using a prescribed routine. Please also note, this air conditioning course only deals with systems that contain a maximum plant capacity of 18kW.

Our teaching staff are industry experts who will give you instruction in working with a large range of systems including wall mounted, floor and ceiling suspended, cassette and ducted fan coil systems as well as water heating pump systems. It is important to note that the course is not for attaining competency in service, repair, maintenance, fault finding and electrical work, or commercial air conditioning, heat pump plant or refrigeration installation. Course Prerequisites

To take this course, you must be at least one of the following:

  • For Electricians – Current Electrical Work Licence
  • For 3rd and 4th Year Electrical Apprentices – Who have Successfully completed the units of competency outlined in the first year of an electrotechnology apprenticeship, and have at least 2 years of industry experience.
  • For Non-Electrical Workers – Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is available provided you are qualified in one of the following trades:

    - Plumbling
    - Gas Fitting

Note: For students wishing to undertake installation and decommissioning of split systems in New South Wales, there is additional state-specific legislation that requires any air conditioning work to be completed by a Refrigeration or Air Conditioning tradesperson or under the supervision of a qualified supervisor in this specialised trade. Before signing up to this split system course, we recommend that you contact NSW Fair Trading on 13 32 20 to discuss your specific situation and eligibility.

Victoria Only – Things to Know Beforehand

If you finish this air conditioning course in Melbourne, you must then apply to the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) for your licence.

There are 2 types of licences you can apply for with the VBA:

1. A licence to be a licensed practitioner – A licensed practitioner is able to certify their own work.
2. Registration to work under an employer’s licence.

 

Our split system course can allow you to hold a Refrigerant Handling Licence with the ARC – the body responsible for overseeing licenses and trade authorisations Australia wide.

Course Outcome & Career Pathways

Course Outcome

If you are successful in completing the course, you will be eligible to apply for a restricted Refrigerant Handling Licence or simply known as a ARC Licence. This will allow you to install and decommission split systems under 18kW, including ducted, wall hung, floor and ceiling mounted units.

The official name of this licence is the Restricted Split System Air Conditioning Installation and Decommissioning Licence.

Career Pathways

On completion of the split system air conditioning course, you may undertake further studies to gain additional qualifications. These qualifications include a Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (UEE32211) or other qualifications listed in the UEE11 Training Package.
