Course Funding

A variety of government-subsidised funding programs are available to help reduce fees for eligible students, apprentices and employers. Simply select your course below to view funding opportunities based on your state or territory.

UEE32225 Apprenticeship Funding - QLD Only

Government-subsidised funding is available for eligible students enrolling in this course through an Apprenticeship Pathway. These subsidies help reduce the cost of your training. In some cases, the full cost is covered and you won’t pay anything. In other cases, you may be required to pay a co-contribution fee (an out-of-pocket contribution). Reduced co-contribution (concession) fees may apply if you hold a valid concession card, identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, are under 17 and not currently at school, or are experiencing genuine financial hardship.

Get Skilled Training is a Skills Assure Supplier (SAS) approved by the Queensland Government Department of Trade, Employment and Training.

This means we are authorised to deliver government-subsidised apprenticeship training through the following funding programs:

  • Career Start Program
  • Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s
  • School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs)

Please Note: Students can access funding for up to two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships across the SATs, Career Start, and Career Boost programs. These can both be completed through the Career Start Program. Only one apprenticeship or traineeship can be funded at a time. If two contracts are active at once, only the one with the earliest start date will be funded (subject to eligibility).

Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s

If you’re under the age of 25 and starting your apprenticeship in Queensland, you may be eligible for the Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s program. This covers the full cost of your training, meaning you won’t pay any co-contribution fees.

School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs)

Eligible Year 10, 11 and 12 students can begin their trade career through a School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SAT). SATs allow you to earn a wage, gain real workplace experience and work toward a nationally recognised qualification while completing high school. Funding is available for one SAT at a time. SAT students do not pay co-contribution fees while at school; however, if you continue your apprenticeship after graduation, co-contribution fees may then apply.

Career Start Program

The Career Start program supports Queenslanders in gaining practical skills to enter the workforce, advance their trade career, or move into full-time employment through an apprenticeship or traineeship.

For eligible students undertaking an Apprenticeship Pathway, the Queensland Government provides a subsidy toward the cost of training and assessment. This significantly reduces your out-of-pocket expenses.

Co-Contribution Fees:

If you are not eligible for fully subsidised training under the Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s program, or you are not exempt as a School-Based Apprentice or Trainee, you will still receive reduced course costs through the Career Start program. In these cases, a small co-contribution fee will apply, which can be paid by either you or your employer.

Co-contribution fees are calculated based on $1.60 per nominal hour for each unit of competency and are paid gradually throughout your apprenticeship. You, your employer or a third party will be invoiced before a unit of competency is opened, and payment must be made prior to commencing training for that unit.

Reduced Co-Contribution Fees (Concessions):

You may be eligible for a concession rate on co-contribution fees if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • Holds a Health Care, Veteran or Pensioner Concession Card issued under Commonwealth law, or is the partner or a dependant of a person who holds such a card and is named on the card,
  • Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander,
  • Are under 17, not at school, and have not completed Year 12,
  • Are experiencing genuine financial hardship (supporting evidence required)

If eligible, your co-contribution fee will be reduced in line with Queensland Government guidelines.

National Incentives for Apprentices and Employers

Through the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive Program, eligible apprentices and employers may be able to access government-funded financial support. These incentives are designed to:

  • Help employers hire and retain apprentices in skills-shortage trades
  • Assist apprentices with cost-of-living expenses
  • Support the purchase of tools, equipment and resources needed on the job

To check your eligibility and available incentive payments, contact your Apprenticeship Connect Australia Provider (ACAP).
